Friday Five: 5 Apps To Help You Stay Organized And Save Time

For many of us, organization plays a key role in our daily lives. It can even determine the successes we see. And at one point or another, we have all wondered: how does so-and-so manage to get so much done?!  Here are five apps to help you stay organized and save time:

1. Evernote

Having launched their public beta on June 24, 2008, Evernote has been around for a long time now (in the app community, that is). But with millions of users, there is a reason why! Evernote can help you eliminate the countless number of notes jotted down on scrap paper. The best part is, you can organize your notes by notebooks and tags, saving you valuable time later on.  And with apps available on almost every platform, it’s a way to keep all your notes in one place, no matter what device you’re using.

Verdict: Great for keeping notes.

2. Pocket

Pocket is perfect for saving articles and videos for later. There are so many times I find myself quickly scanning the news, and then saving articles to read later. The best part about Pocket is you can view saved items without needing an internet connection! Pocket is available to view on Android, iPhone and iPad, Kindle Fire, and from your web browser. However, you can save items to Pocket from not only your web browser, but also from email and even other apps!

Verdict: Great for saving articles.

3. Trello

Sometimes, simple to-do lists just don’t cut it! This is where Trello can help. Their simple interface allows you create multiple boards, so you can categorize all your tasks by project. You can also move tasks from section to section, allowing you to create multiple lists per “board”. You can even collaborate with others, which makes it extremely helpful when working in groups. Lastly, it’s convenient to take with you – from the web to Android, iPhone, iPad, and Windows 8 tablets.

Verdict: Great for multiple to-do lists.

4. HootSuite

Find yourself constantly thinking about social media?  Then HootSuite is for you! This social media  manager allows you to control multiple accounts from a single dashboard. However, my favourite feature is the ability to schedule social broadcasts ahead of time. Perfect for those busy days! Other features include customizable analytics and team collaboration. HootSuite is available on your web browser and on Android, iPhone, and iPad.

Verdict: Great for juggling social media.

5. Prezi

Prezi is an innovative presentation tool, allowing you to visually organize information. It’s perfect for sharing ideas and creating “maps” of information. Prezi challenges traditional slideshow presentations by telling a story. It does so by creating a path between each frame, thereby creating a journey for your audience to follow. Prezi is available for web browsers, iPhones and iPads.

Verdict: Great for quickly organizing a presentation.

Other great apps to help you stay organized include Google Drive, SkyDrive, Box, and Dropbox.
