CTFPHC Mobile App

A mobile app for physicians to access materials offline.

The Client

The Canadian Task Force on Preventative Health Care (CTFPHC) focuses on developing clinical practice guidelines to support primary care providers in delivering preventive health care.

The Problem

Creating a mobile app to help physicians rapidly access CTFPHC guidelines and resources at the point of care and while on the go. It was important for these materials to be available offline on mobile devices.

The Solution

The app contains guideline and recommendation summaries, knowledge translation tools, and links to additional resources. Key features include the ability to bookmark sections for easy access, display content in either English or French, and change the font size of text.

Mobile Application

Both an Android and iOS app were created using using PhoneGap, a mobile development framework allowing users to generate apps for multiple platforms. Outreach workers install the app on their mobile device.

CMS Integration

The app fetches data from CTFPHC’s Content Management System through a web API. If the information has been changed, the app auto-updates content displayed to physicians.

Offline Sync

The resources within the app are stored on the device. This means users can access the information without a connection to the internet. Additionally, the app does text-based searches on the offline data, so users can quickly find the information they need.

Interactive Surveys

The app contains a series of questionnaires which can be filled out by physicians. The results provide a score, indicating the potential risk to the patient for that particular ailment. The surveys aim to help physicians with preventative health care.
