My Tools 4 Care

An online toolkit for family caregivers of persons with dementia.

The Client

In partnership with the Alzheimer Society of Alberta/NWT and the Alberta Caregivers Association, the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta developed a transition toolkit for family caregivers of persons with dementia.

The Problem

Intention of the toolkit is to support caregivers through transitions and increase their self efficacy, hope, and quality of life. Participants recommended an online version be developed to improve accessibility and portability of the toolkit.

The Solution

Developing a simple content management system (CMS) for the transition toolkit. My Tools 4 Care administrators can use this CMS to create sections, sub-sections, and content. Participants can access these sections and interact with the content.

Particular attention was paid to colors and graphics so they would be respectful to care partners. The web app needed to be simple to use, with minimal training for users. The logo was designed in-house.

Behaviour Tracking

Caregivers can track the behaviour of the family member with dementia. By filling out this form after an incident occurs, they can learn how to best respond to such incidents in the future.

Content Management

Administrators can create sections and sub-sections for participants. These sections can be interactive or read-only. Participants can enter content into interactive sections with a rich-text editor. All personal content is private and accessible to only the participant.

Calendar and Reminders

A calendar is included in the web app. Participants can enter important dates, like appointments or personal reminders. They can add, modify, or remove calendar entries. The calendar content is also private.
